Modern Foreign Languages

Learning a foreign language provides the opportunity to develop an open-minded attitude to other cultures, therefore promoting global citizenship. Our curriculum is designed to foster students’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world. We aim to enable pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language independently and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing, creating confident communicators.

We aim to enrich the language experience by encouraging students to communicate for practical purposes for example when taking part in Linguamaths, Translation Bee, participating in cultural activities on deep learning day and communicating in authentic settings on educational visits abroad.

Students should learn new ways of thinking, read great literature and enjoy film in the original language by taking part in foreign film club. Students will have the foundation for learning further languages by attending MFL club and language taster clubs, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries.
