SPG Mock General Election

On June 8th 2017 our girls were offered the opportunity to take time out of their lunch break to vote in the SPG Mock General Election.  Before the event every Year group had been engaged in an assembly led by Year 13 Government and Politics students which included a description of what General Elections are underpinned by the concept of democracy.  The assemblies also outlined some of the key manifesto pledges of the Conservative and the Labour Party and girls were directed to the BBC website which gives an overview of the other political parties’ key policy ideas.  There were many links made to the political process in curriculum areas, and form time had been used to watch engaging videos learning about the Westminster model of governance.   Many thanks to 7L who decorated ballot boxes and 10U who created banners and posters representing all of the different political parties. Special thanks to all of those students who supported the administration of the vote and who counted the ballot papers.  It has been wonderful to hear the intelligent and inquisitive conversations around school and to see political engagement in action. Well done girls!
