BBC School Report

For the past four years we have been involved with the BBC School News report which usually occurs in March. We have the fantastic opportunity for our students to gain valuable experience in writing news reports and recording news bulletins under real time constraints just like real news reporters. Students are gathered in the morning to look at the news reports that are occurring in their local area and nationally from the morning newspapers and then they have strict deadlines to go and report on these cases and upload their reports and news bulletins to the school website. The BBC is also in touch with the school to keep us updated on latest developments and publicise our website to other schools. A small group of students get the amazing opportunity to gain a real insight into the news workrooms with a visit to the BBC Mailbox headquarters where we have had several girls get ‘air time’ on the local BBC Radio and we have even had students record the weather forecast which has then been aired on the 6pm Midlands Today BBC News. It is a fun filled day which is extremely tiring yet thrilling fun the girls as they work under pressures that news reporters and editors experience daily. So, keep an eye and ear out for our girls on the 16 March 2017 where we hope to have even more talent displayed with the next news team.
